Live Like Chum

Snakebite education fund

Oliver Charles Baker III, affectionally known as Chum, was a devoted husband and father. He adored his family and enjoyed being outdoors. Never meeting a person he didn’t like, he lived his life to the fullest, including spending time at the lake every summer with his family.

Unfortunately, during one of these trips, he was bitten by a juvenile copperhead snake at the front door of his lake house at Smith Lake in Alabama on 5/24/19. He was 52 years old. He was allergic to the venom and he went into anaphylactic shock, resulting in multi-organ failure. Despite receiving excellent medical care, he ultimately passed away 72 hours later.

He is survived by his wife and two sons. His wife, Marilou, his two sons, Charlie and Walden, and ASF would like to honor Chum’s memory by setting up the Live Like Chum Education Fund. This fund will go directly to supporting ASF’s education mission to improve snakebite care in the United States. Every dollar will go towards supporting conferences and direct training of healthcare workers. All donations are tax-deductible
